Whitewater for Dallas! The Dallas Wave and the Santa Fe Trestle Trail herald a new spirit and direction for recreation in Dallas. People are no longer boxed into the downtown and suburban corridors with the idea that rivers and outdoor recreation are hours away. Hiking, boating and catch and release fishing exists just minutes from downtown Dallas.

The Dallas Wave features two boat launches, parking, scenic pathways, natural seating for spectators, a close up view of a natural outcropping of white chalk bank near the southern edge of the area on the west bank of the Trinity River, and immediate access to .86 miles of concrete trail at the Santa Fe Trestle Trail and 2 miles of trail on the Trinity Skyline Trail.
The two wave features provide whitewater for kayak enthusiasts and sport boaters. The area also includes a bypass channel for boat traffic not wanting to experience a touch of the wave action or boaters may pull out at the boat launch prior to the Dallas Wave and portage around the features. It is currently under construction.
Volunteer groups, neighbors and nature lovers frequent the area to provide restorative work, participate in clean-up projects, and hike or picnic close to the river. In the future, there will be an opportunity for high flyin' action at the Waves with competitions and recreational kayak shows.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has designated 26 trails throughout the state as Texas Paddling Trails. Eight of these trails are located in the DFW area and a portion of the Dallas Trinity Paddling Trail can be accessed at the Dallas Wave. This trail system can be identified by kiosks at the Dallas Wave with further information available at the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Web site.
